Come On, The Economy is Not that Bad!!!

Consider this regarding the Top 400 Wage Earners in the United States:

In September, Forbes magazine released its annual list of the 400 wealthiest Americans--and the group's net worth had jumped 8 percent from last year to a combined $1.37 trillion. The industries that dominate the list--surprise, surprise--are finance, investment and real estate.

In the debate over whether Congress should allow Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy--estimated to cost around $700 billion over the next 10 years--to expire, the cries of the wealthy reached a near-deafening level.

Come on, why punish them in this tough economy. I am sure everyone saw an 8% increase in their wages last year.

Why Are Progressives So Scared?

I admire the Tea Party for one reason. They have ideas, and are unabashed about their politics. The Progressives would do well to take note of their strengths. No one votes for a party that shys away from their platform. Ironically, the Tea Party has a smaller base than Progressives, however they know how to engage their base, and get them to vote. Republicans should also learn from their own movement. Core values matter, and they ignored their own base.
If Progressives lose this November, they have no one to blame but themselves. They were outworked and gave up on their own agenda. Regarding the President, he is correct about the Progressive agenda. Just because you did not get everything you wanted the first two years, Progressives should not give up on the next 2 years.

Time for Tea?

As a writer and publisher, I appreciate perspectives from all points of view. What are the general impressions of the tea party movement? Will this be a sustainable movement that shifts the social paradigm? Or is this an economic reaction to high unemployment and the worse economy in 50 years? Feedback appreciated.

Did I Just Hear This Correctly?

Testing and assessment is critically important, correct? For years we have been told the importance of standardized testing. We have tortured millions of students and teachers with the importance of testing. Advocacy groups have argued for years against testing students with disabilities. No Child Left Behind was supposed to ensure every student passed the test. Schools needed to meet annual yearly progress. Research Research Research. We were told research supports testing and the importance of assessments. And yet it all comes down to this.

New York State is out of money. So now we reevaluate the Regents. Does this not strike anyone as a disgrace? It all comes down to money? This supports what critics have been saying for years, that the textbook companies control the discussion regarding the value of testing.

How shameful!
